- Abstract :
- Assesses the reliability of various images which claim to be portraits of Anne Boleyn. Ives concludes there are three reliable identifications: an anonymous portrait medal of 1534 (London, British Museum); an enamelled locket ring of the 1570s (Chequers, Buckinghamshire); and a portrait type known in two examples (Hever Castle, Edenbridge, Kent; and Mrs. K. Radclyffe collection). Ives also argues that Anne Boleyn was Hans Holbein the Younger's original royal patron, calling attention to references to Anne in Holbein's drawing of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba (Windsor Castle, Royal Collection) and his 1533 painting of The Ambassadors (London, National Gallery). ;
