Abstract :
Examines the 1972-1994 restoration of Koldinghus (Kolding) by the Danish architect couple Inger and Johannes Exner. Koldinghus, now a state owned building, is a former castle from the 1400s. It was altered to a Renaissance castle, then left as a ruin after a fire in 1808. Documents the restoration process primarily through photos, plus some architectural drawings and sketches. Illustrates interior and exterior details of the completed building. Includes the following three texts: 1) an interview with the two architects by Kim Dirckinck-Holmfeld on aspects of their restoration of churches and Koldinghus, as well as newly designed churches carried out by the two architects in Denmark 1955-1984; 2) an essay by the architects themselves surveying the history of the castle and their different ideas and steps for rebuilding it; and 3) a commentary by Ulf Grønvold on the accomplished restoration project. ;
